Q: Do I need to be a JCC member to tryout?
A: No, but a Teen Membership, good for one year, is included with non-member fees.
Q: Can I tryout for more than one sport?
A: Yes. In fact, we encourage every athlete to try out for more than one team and/or individual
Q: What team and individual sports competitions will be at the JCC Maccabi Games®?
A: The team sports are boys and girl's basketball, boys and girl's soccer, boy's baseball, girls volleyball and coed flag football. The individual sports are tennis, swimming, bowling, golf, table tennis, dance, Star Reporting.
Q: Can I play more than one sport at the Games?
A: No. You can only compete in one sport at the Games.
Q: I do not have a child participating in the Games, can I still host?
A: Yes. All Jewish families are welcome to host JCC Maccabi Games® Athletes.
Q: Can the athletes baby sit?
A: No. Athletes are coming to the Games to participate in sports competition and social events, not baby-sit.
Q: Do you have to be Jewish to participate in the Games?
A: All JCC Maccabi Games athletes must have at least one Jewish parent, but everyone to get involved by volunteering before and during the Games.
Q: Is there an age requirement to participate as an athlete?
A: Yes. You must be between the age of 13 and 16 as of July 31, 2008 for any team sport and between the age of 12 and 16 as of July 31, 2008 for any individual sport.
Q: I just miss the cut off and will be 17, can I still participate?
A: Yes. 17–20 year olds can volunteer and be part of the JCC Maccabi Alumni Club.
Q: Can I participate, as an athlete, in the Games if I can’t be there all week?
A: No. As an athlete you must commit to the entire week.
Q: What if I’m not a superstar athlete?
A: Team San Diego offers a variety of choices for every teenager who wants to participate. In addition to team sports, consider an individual sport, or sign up to be a photographer or journalist for our Star Reporter program.
Q: Are there tryouts?
A: Yes. For team sports is required you attend at least one tryout session as directed by your sport. Tryouts are not required for individual sports.
Q: Will there be practices?
A: Yes. Each coach will determine his or her own practice schedule.
Q: I usually go away to camp. Do I need to be around throughout the summer?
A: No. Many athletes are away during the summer; however, athletes must be available to practice.
Q: Are there any fees involved?
A: Yes, the fee is $650 for JCC members and $775 for non members. The fees for the local delegation are much less than the fees to compete nationally since there are no travel involved. In addition, scholarships are available.
Q: Who is responsible and involved in providing security for the Games?
A: The host community works closely with a wide variety of local, state and federal agencies determine the security needs for the Games.
Q: What are credentials and why are they needed?
A: Credentials are visible identification badges for athletes, coaches and spectators to help security team determine who should be admitted into Games venues.
Q: Can my friends and family attend my games?
A: Yes, spectators are required to obtain a spectator pass which permits them entry into venues and Opening Ceremonies only.
Q: What do the Athlete Game Fees include?
A: Fees include Opening Ceremonies and Closing Party, JCCA registration fees, security, uniforms, nightly social events, meals, transportation, coaching and supervision.
