In August 2008, the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, JACOBS FAMILY CAMPUS hosted the JCC Maccabi Games, a week long Olympic-style sporting event for Jewish teens, complete with opening and closing ceremonies. Athletes competed in a variety of sports, participated in fun, meaningful Tikun Olam (repairing the world) projects, and strengthened their Jewish identity by associating with other Jewish teens through these activities.
San Diego welcomed 1600+ athletes from all over the US, Israel and Mexico, 200+ coaches, and over 2000 volunteers. It is with great pride that we are able to say that the 2008 JCC Maccabi Games was the largest Jewish community event in San Diego to date, bringing together volunteers and host families from every area of San Diego and uniting multiple Jewish organizations.
We thank all the athletes, coaches, host families and volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to make the 2008 JCC Maccabi Games a great success.
